Hello and welcome to my first Web page, can you tell! anyway this site is all about my hobby, Radio Control Aircraft in the SPAD format, my aim being to promote SPAD especially in the UK, get building!

So what is a SPAD? Well apart from being a a French WWI biplane:

it is also the acronym for Simple Plastic Aeroplane Designs, a concept that was original thought up by two Americans, Dean Tuinstra and Collin McGinnis to enable them to make extremely cheap and tough airframes for radio control  aircraft combat. RC air combat involves flying a model aircraft with a streamer attached to the back with the object being to cut each others streamer! as you can imagine collisions do happen, however making these planes in the SPAD fashion is very quick, simple and most importantly extremely cheap.

like all good ideas its has grown it something fairly big! And people across the globe took on the original ideas and developed the whole concept and some very impressive model aircraft made from drainpipe, Correx sheet, and aluminium have been produced.
